Ethereal Imperfections
November- December '24
This publication reveals a set of “ugly” images printed with cyanotype therefore emphasising the beauty of them. Alongside these prints, there is a collection of poems carefully selected which showcase the concept: aesthetics of ugliness. The order of the poems is based on time periods revealing the continuity of this movement in literature. Each poem is accompanied by a set of original cyanotype prints which leave the concept of the verses be interpreted by the reader.
My starting point was gathering all needed materials; cyanotype chemicals, paper, taking photographs and researching the poems while carefully selecting the lyrics. After many tryouts with cyanotype, during dutch winter, I finally bought a UV lamp in order to make my entire process faster and have much better results. In the end, after gathering all cyanotype prints, printed poems and extra pages, I bounded the book using hand sewn coptic stitch method.
