Fence of Friendship

October '25

Fence of Friendship is a cross-media publication consisting of an interactive essay reader website and a second medium - the keychains, about how technology shapes our friendships and social worlds.

My design choices focus on translating the post-digital theories of social into lived, shareable and networked experiences, extending text's life beyond its original form. The website's structures breaks the essays into fragments and different layers of interaction (hover, click, unlock, scroll, highlight) and it reflects how texts can circulate and mutate in the post-digital condition.

The keychains act as a second medium, a small, tactile piece of the publication. They give the website a physical afterlife that can circulate amongst people independently of the website. Someone might encounter a quote on a keychain and then trace it back to the website. Then, they might share the keychain with their beloved friend and pass on the “key” to the website.
